Young and old flocked to the new Marlowe Theatre as it threw
open its doors to the public at the weekend.

A huge variety of family-friendly entertainment was on offer
during the three day extravaganza which offered an opportunity for
members of the public to explore the multi million pound venue and
enjoy an array of walkabout street theatre, live music and art
activities.

The undoubted star was children’s television hero Rastamouse,
who performed on stage with his Crew in front of hundreds of
youngsters.

After they finished bopping away to the dreadlocked critter’s
famous songs, they were able meet him and his furry friends.

Other highlights included performances from Performing Arts
Network Kent (PANek), Wide Eyed Theatre Company, the Marlowe Youth
Theatre, and members of Take to the Streets workshop groups, led by
Gary Barber; music from The Coal Porters and The Dualers. There was
also a Grease flashmob, urban art workshops, and a staff
question-and-answer session.

The weekend also saw the first two public performances in the main
auditorium.
