Nasons in Wincheap, Canterbury set to become Anglia Home Furnishings

Another retailer is about to move into the former Nasons furniture store in Wincheap following the shock closure of the business.

Last month, Nasons shut its department store in the city centre after almost 90 years trading and also its furniture shop, which is now being re-let.

A new lease for the building has been taken on by Anglia Home Furnishings, which says it will re-open the store in about seven weeks after a re-fit.

But there are still no clues at to what is going to happen to the empty building in the High Street, where 50 staff lost their jobs.

Owner Andrew Nason blamed “brutal” trading conditions for the demise of the family business.

The steady decline on the high street has bitten many big names over recent years, with a number of high profile casualties.

Anglia Home Furnishings has 19 stores around the country but the Canterbury branch will be the retailer’s first in Kent.

It sells sofas, beds, dining and bedroom furniture and flooring.
