A nurse has fought off a man who punched her in the face as he tried steal her handbag.

Now police have released an e-fit image of the mugger who fled empty-handed after the attack in a Canterbury city centre car park.

The 41-year-old woman from Dover was loading shopping into her car in the Northgate Community Centre car park in Military Road when a man approached and grabbed her bag.

She refused to let go of it and the mugger pushed her to the ground and punched her in the face before running off.

The woman went for a check up at Kent and Canterbury Hospital but was not seriously injured.
Her attacker is described as white, aged in his late 20s, 5ft 8ins, with short, closely-cropped hair and wearing a grey, hooded top.

The incident happened at 7.30pm December, 17 2012 but ongoing police inquiries have meant that the efit could not be released until this week.
Anyone who recognises the man should contact Det Con Dan Aylett at Kent Police on 101, giving reference ZY/35861/12.
