Redruth RFC have launched an investigation after Canterbury wing Kwaku Asiedu was subjected to abuse during the city club’s National 2 South defeat in Cornwall.
In a statement on the Cornish club’s website, it was claimed Canterbury officials had reported that the winger was ‘jeered’ and Redruth have threatened to ban those responsible from the Recreation Ground.
However, Canterbury coach Andy Pratt revealed he had been unaware of the incident on Saturday and said: "I didn’t hear anything at the time or hear it mentioned on the journey back but I will have a chat to him at training."
Redruth’s statement added "the conduct of a small section of spectators on the East Bank towards Canterbury’s Kwaku Asiedu. . . took the gloss off an otherwise splendid afternoon."
It continued: "This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated and once they are identified, those involved should be advised that they can expect to be banned from future games.
"As a club we obviously expect all players, officials and opposition supporters to be treated with proper respect."
