VANDALS caused havoc at a village school with tubes of red, blue and yellow poster paints.

They squirted the tubes on to walls, a television, cassettes, photocopier, carpets and cushions at Sturry Church of England Primary School near Canterbury.

They also threw paint around the library causing damage to books estimated at about £500.

Police say the final bill for all the damage could be in excess of £1,000.

Staff discovered the damage when they arrived at the school on Tuesday morning.

Police believe that at least three offenders, thought to be teenagers, climbed onto the roof and got into the school through a skylight before making their way into the library area.

PC Kevin Ashmore said: “The paint was in several tubes and the offenders squeezed it out all over the library area, causing a considerable amount of damage. They must have been spattered with paint as well."

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of the school during the time frame of the incident and may have seen anything suspicious.
