Canterbury adaptive rower Alastair McKean added to Great Britain’s impressive haul of medals at the Beijing Paralympics on Thursday.

The 29-year-old KCC associate disability officer was part of the mixed coxed four team that grabbed bronze in the sport’s debut appearence at the Games.

It was a double east Kent celebration as James Morgan, from Deal, was also part of the team.

The pair were joined in the boat by Vicki Hansford, from Farnborough, and Naomi Riches, from north London, as well as cox Alan Sherman.

Alastair works for the county council’s sports development unit.

KCC cabinet member for communities Mike Hill was delighted with the result: “Our warmest congratulations to Alastair and James on this fantastic achievement.

“Alastair’s work helps to encourage others and I hope those who have watched the Games at home will feel inspired to get into sport and find their own talents.”
