A woman was stopped from jumping from Canterbury’s city wall by two passersby who held onto her until police arrived.
Details of the near-tragedy emerged on Facebook when one of the women who helped her posted to criticise those who walked on by.
She says she and another passerby spotted the vulnerable woman about to leap from the wall, which stands about 40ft high at about 12.56pm.
“While we held on to her and talked to her numerous people walked past us and saw what was happening and just walked on,” she said.
“Finally a lady did stop and called the police.
“For 20 minutes we held onto this young lady until the police arrived and took over.
“I am so glad we came along when we did and were able to stop a tragedy.
“I am so saddened that this young girl felt she had nothing to live for and I'm extremely angry and disappointed in how many people walked past without a care.
“I hope this young lady gets the help and support she needs.”
Police attended the scene and confirmed the woman was taken into the care of mental health services following the incident yesterday.
Her mother later posted on the Canterbury Residents’ Group to thank those who helped her daughter.
