Pensioner arrested after teenage girl ‘sexually assaulted’ in Kingsmead Road near Sainsbury’s in Canterbury

A pensioner has been arrested after a teenage girl reported she was sexually assaulted near a Sainsbury’s supermarket.

A man is alleged to have approached a teenage girl while she sat on a bench in a walkway connecting Northgate with the Sainsbury’s car park on Kingsmead Road in Canterbury.

The man is alleged to have offered the girl money and tried to speak to her before touching her inappropriately over her clothing.

The incident reportedly took place at about 10pm on Friday, May 24.

Investigations by officers led to the arrest the following day of a 70-year-old man on suspicion of sexual assault.

He has since been bailed pending further inquiries.

Detectives are subsequently appealing for witnesses, and anyone who might have information relevant to the investigation, to come forward.
