Person remains in hospital after being struck by train between Ashford International and Canterbury West

A person remains in hospital after being hit by a train.

Emergency services were called to the incident near Chartham railway station yesterday morning.September24

Southeastern bosses confirmed all lines between Ashford International and Canterbury West were blocked as a result but were reopened again by 1.45pm yesterday.

British Transport Police have today confirmed the person remains in hospital.

The spokesman said their next of kin had been informed and were with him in hospital.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

At the time, Chartham villagers reported seeing an air ambulance hovering over the area. One told KentOnline: "Station Road is now completely blocked by emergency vehicles.

"I've never seen so many.

"There's no access in or out for residents."
