A “JEKYLL and Hyde” pervert who had fantasies about the “abuse, degradation, torture and murder of young girls” has failed to persuade the country’s top judge to overturn his sexual offences prevention order.

Terrence Hoath, 56, of Rectory Lane, Barham, searched online for mothers with young children, hoping to find like-minded people to share his fantasies with, and also kept a stash of child porn, London’s Criminal Appeal Court heard on Wednesday .
Hoath was jailed for three years, with a two-year extended licence period, at Canterbury Crown Court on May 10, 2007, after pleading guilty to numerous counts of making, possessing and distributing indecent images.

A sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) was also imposed, banning him from using a computer except in very restricted circumstances.
On Wednesday he asked the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Judge, Mr Justice Eady and Mr Justice Simon, sitting at London’s Criminal Appeal Court, to change that order to allow him back on the web, claiming the prohibition was “unnecessary.”

Hoath’s lawyers argued that the self-employed pervert’s ability to work and run a business are being crippled by the strictures imposed by the SOPO.

But Lord Judge, giving the court’s ruling, refused to alter or remove it, saying it was richly deserved in the circumstances of his wrongdoing.
“It cannot be said that the SOPO was wrong at the time of the sentence. What has been argued is that none of the prohibitions were necessary.
“We are not persuaded by these submissions. The SOPO was a necessary and proportionate response to the seriousness of the offences,” Lord Judge concluded.
