Whitstable Town are looking for a new manager after a poor run of results prompted Peter Nott to hand in his resignation on Sunday morning.

Nott, pictured, saw his side beaten 3-0 by struggling Crawley Down on Saturday, a defeat which leaves the Oystermen just three points above the relegation zone in Ryman League, Division 1 South.

Coach Steve Nolan and goalkeeping coach Paul Hyde have also stepped down, leaving reserve team manager Dave Fairclough to take charge for the next two games - at home to Chipstead in the Alan Boon League Cup on Tuesday and at Bognor Regis Town on in the league on Saturday.

After winning their first two matches of the season, Whitstable went on to lose eight of their next nine league fixtures and Nott called a meeting with Town chairman Joe Brownett and vice-chairman Gary Johnson on Sunday after deciding to walk away from the Belmont.

He told the club’s website: “Anybody that knows me will tell you that I always give 100 per cent to any task that I take on and to be perfectly honest, the bad run of results have really got to me lately.

"The job has stopped being enjoyable, and once that happens I think it is time for both parties to move on."

Nott succeeded Mark Lane as Whitstable boss in January and although he guided the Oystermen to safety in the latter part of last season, he was unable to replicate the form. He leaves the club 18th in the table.

Mr Brownett said: “It’s always a difficult time when a manager that you get on well with is on such a poor run of form. We have stuck by Peter and although we accepted that he felt he was unable to carry on as manager of the club, all involved are bitterly disappointed that he was not able to turn things around."
