A woman accused of murdering her sister last month appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday.

Phoebe Barton, of Highland Road, Chartham, spoke only to be identified during the brief hearing.

The 49-year-old was arrested after the body of Karen Barton, 51, also of Highland Road, was found in an area known as Pickett's Field in the quiet village near Canterbury.

James Bilsland, prosecuting, said the alleged murder was committed on or about May 8.

Barton was remanded in custody until August 2, when she will enter a plea to the charge. Judge Andrew Patience QC set a provisional trial date of November 29.
