An appeal has gone out to dog walkers in Whitstable after a student of 17 was assaulted in the town.

The teenager, from Canterbury, suffered swelling and bruising to his ears, cuts and sore ribs after he reported being attacked by two men on Church Street playing field between 5.45pm and 6pm on Saturday, April 14.

Investigating officer PC Alan Porter said: “The victim says there were at least two dog walkers in the playing field at the time of the incident and one of them came over and helped him to his feet after the assault.

“We would very much like to speak to these dog walkers as they could have information that could help our investigation. I appeal to local dog walkers to cast their minds back to April 14 and if they were in the playing field that afternoon I urge them to contact us.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting crime number ZY/10491/12.

Two youths of 19 and 18 have been arrested on suspicion of assault and have been bailed until May 25 while inquiries continue.
