Two men were arrested in Canterbury on Friday night on suspicion of possessing imitation firearms.
Police stopped the men in a car on the Rheims Way at 10.15pm after reports of thefts from service stations in Faversham, Sandwich and outside of Kent.
The car was also linked to an attempted shoplifting in Folkestone. Inside it they found the imitation weapon.
Two men aged 23 and 19 were arrested on suspicion of making off without payment, theft and possession of an imitation firearm.
The 23-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of driving without a licence or insurance.
They are still in custody.
