Canterbury boy, 15, arrested on suspicion of having knife at Orchard School

A teenager is in custody after staff at a Canterbury school for children with learning difficulties reported he had a knife.

Police were called to the Orchard School, in Cambridge Road, at 11.45am after concerns were raised about the weapon.

Officers arrested a 15-year-old pupil, from Canterbury, on suspicion of possessing a bladed item.

The knife was seized by police and the boy was taken into custody at Canterbury police station.

Head teacher Nikki Mason said: "The safety of our pupils is paramount and we would like to reassure parents that incidents like this are extremely rare.

"We acted swiftly and this matter is now in the hands of the police."
