Police are at the scene of a serious collision involving a person and a lorry at a level crossing.
Officers were initially called to the Sturry level crossing on the A28 in Canterbury earlier today.
The road has subsequently been shut in both directions between the A291 Island Road (Sturry Station) and Fordwich Road.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Police were called to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry near the Sturry Level Crossing on the A28 at 12.25pm.
“Officers are currently in attendance along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and the road is closed in both directions at the junction with the A291 Sturry Hill.
“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes where possible.”
One fire engine also attended to assist the police and left the area just before 2pm.
An air ambulance was also called with a spokesperson for the service saying the patient was flown to a major trauma centre.
Traffic service Inrix reported queueing traffic in the area which led to congestion to Canterbury retail parks, and back past Sturry Station.
Vehicles travelling on Broad Oak village roads were also moving very slowly.
Southeastern is reporting no trains will call at Sturry until at least 9pm following the incident. Anyone who has been delayed by more than 15 minutes can claim delay repay compensation online.
Stagecoach buses were also affected with the travel provider saying the 8 / 8A / Triangle / 6 would see delays.
A post on X said: “Due to an RTC in Sturry, all above services are diverting via Broad Oak and Sweechgate in both directions, we will not be able to serve Sturry at this present time.”
