Several emergency services spent hours on a housing estate after they were called to the scene.
Multiple police cars, fire engines and ambulances were sent to Godwin Road, Canterbury.
One witness, who did not want to be named, said: "Since 7am this morning we have had multiple police cars enter the estate, of the end of Alfred Close.
"At 2.45pm, there were still three fire engines, bomb squad, armed police, critical care ambulances, police helicopters, and more.
"A whole section of the estate is taped off, and the focus is on a flat. It's very concerning for local residents."
By 7.15pm the incident had been scaled back but one police car remained.
The witness said: “It caused such a disturbance to the estate today. We just hope everyone involved is ok, and got the help needed.”
A police spokesperson said: “Police were called due to concern for the welfare of a distressed man inside a private residential address in the Thanington area of Canterbury.
“Officers attended and were later able to safely remove the man from the property and place him into the care of medical professionals.”
