A huge police search has been underway on the Stodmarsh Nature Reserve near Canterbury for a 54-year-old man missing from his home since Saturday.

Officers found John Harvey’s abandoned car by the reserve on Tuesday morning and a search for him involving a police helicopter, specially trained officers and police dogs was launched.

It was called off at dusk but the team, including Kent Search and Rescue volunteers and the helicopter were out looking for him again early on Wednesday morning.

Police say they are increasingly concerned for the welfare of Mr Harvey who was last seen in Canterbury on Saturday morning after dropping off relatives.

He is described as a white, stockily-built, and 5ft 8in tall, with brown receding hair. He was last seen wearing black trousers, a black jumper, a black coat and black shoes.

Anyone who knows of his whereabouts or has information that could help in the search is asked to contact Kent Police on 101.
