Kent Police helicopter search after woman attacked near A28 in Canterbury

A police helicopter was scrambled to track down a suspect after a woman was attacked.

Officers were called the scene near South Street, off the A28, in Canterbury this morning.

The chopper was seen flying over Canterbury Christ Church University just after 1.30pm, scanning the area.

Detectives continue to search for the suspect - who is thought to be known to the victim - this evening.

A police spokesperson said: "Just before 11.10am today, we were called to a report of an assault in the vicinity of the A28.

"Officers attended and enquiries are ongoing to locate the suspect.

"Searches have been assisted by a police helicopter."

No serious injuries have been reported.
