Detectives probing two distraction burglaries from elderly people in Canterbury and Sturry have renewed their appeal for information.

They have issued two e-fits of men with thick foreign accents linked to thefts of £25 and £750 last month.

Police have not ruled out a link between the two burglaries, in which the offenders talked their way into the homes of victims.

PC Pete Frampton said: “We are investigating whether there are similarities between the two.

“If anyone has had similar incidents happen to them, their friends, relatives or neighbours, we would like them to get in touch.

“We would also advise against letting anyone into your house if you are unsure of who they are and where they are from. If you are not sure ask for their details and check with the company they claim to be from first.”

The first burglary took place at the home of a woman in Fordwich Road, Sturry, at 11am on Thursday, July 16.

A man claiming to be working on a neighbour’s drive helped her move shopping into her house and then asked for a jug of water. The woman’s husband later noticed that £25 was missing.

The second distraction took place at Forrester Close behind Sturry Road in Canterbury between 3pm and 3.30pm on Friday, July 17.

Pretending to check for water leaks, he told an 84-year-old man to clear the cupboard below the sink before disappearing from the room momentarily. The homeowner later found £750 missing.
