Police launch hunt for hit-and-run driver

A hit-and-run driver in a stolen black Audi A3 worth £20,000 is being hunted by police.

Officers are only now appealing for witnesses to the incident which took place at 5.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4.

The brand-new car was stolen from East Street, Herne Bay, and then driven down Beacon Hill and on to Beltinge Road.

The car then turned right in Canterbury Road where it collided with a Renault Clio.

The driver did not stop and carried on along Canterbury Road and Mortimer Street before dumping the car in Hampton car park in Swalecliffe Avenue.

The Audi suffered extensive damage and the driver jumped red lights as well heading the wrong way down a one-way street.

Police would like to trace anyone who saw the car being driven erratically or the collision.

A witness did contact the police but did not leave her details and officers would like to speak to her.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident and are on police bail.
