A woman reportedly sexually assaulted this morning screamed for help as she was attacked on Canterbury's city wall.
The victim - who is in her early 20s - is said to have been targeted by a man as she walked between the bus station and Wincheap roundabout.
Members of the public heard her cries for help and called the police.
Officers rushed to the scene and a 24-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested in the nearby Station Road East at 3.50am.
He remains in custody.
The entrance to Dane John Gardens was taped off this morning while investigations continued.
DCI Nick Gossett said: "We have already spoken to a number of witnesses and are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry, but are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Dane John Gardens area of Canterbury in the early hours of May 24, and who saw or heard anything suspicious, to contact us."
