A teenage coach from Canterbury Gymnastics Club has been praised as a fine role model and given a regional award recognising her achievements.

Polly Crathorne was just 14 for her first coaching course but, now aged 15, is a Level 1 coach.

She has been presented with a 2009 Award of Merit for Coaching (Youth, under 21) at the South East Region Gymnastics Annual Awards held in Dorking.

Andy Piekarski, presenting the award, said: "Despite being only 14 when she attended her first course, Polly demonstrated maturity beyond her years, high intelligence, work ethic and commitment to learning.

"Her enthusiasm is infectious and she always has a smile on her face. Her coaching log book has been used as an example of good practice.

"She has been very helpful as a volunteer at events and competitions and is an excellent role model."
