A YOUNG motorcyclist killed in a head-on crash with a car was an enthusiastic rugby player.

Christopher Emson died on Sunday morning, two days after his 18th birthday. He lived with his parents, Mick and Pat, and younger sister Claire, at Clifford Gardens in Walmer, near Deal.

His machine was in collision with a Fiat car on the A257 Canterbury Road at Littlebourne, near Canterbury. Police said he died at the scene.

The tragedy happened on a notorious S bend which has been the site of numerous accidents in the past.

Christopher played for Deal and Betteshanger rugby under-17 teams. He was about to complete his first year as an apprentice bricklayer.

Paul Ridings, a deputy head teacher at Walmer Science College, paid tribute to the former student he described as popular during his five years at the Salisbury Road school.

Mr Ridings said: "He will be very much remembered as a very pleasant, helpful and likeable young man. He was a quiet and private student who also mixed well with his peers.

"Christopher was committed to ex-curricular activities and rugby in particular, representing school throughout his time at Walmer."
