AN INMATE at Canterbury Prison has been found hanging from his cell bars.

Faisal Zahid, 27, was serving 15 months for theft and possession of an offensive weapon.

His body was found at 6am Saturday and he was pronounced dead 10 minutes later by the prison doctor. An inquest is expected to open on Monday.

His next of kin, said to be from London, have been informed. It is not known where he was living at the time of his arrest.

A Home Office spokesman said that he occupied a single cell and had not been on suicide watch.
