Steve Tiley receives his trophy from Ayman Hussein, chairman of the Egyptian Golf Federation
Herne Bay professional Steve Tiley scored the biggest win of his career at the weekend when he won the Egyptian Open in Cairo.
The 27-year-old former England amateur international picked up £18,850 after leading from start to finish to win by four shots from Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen.
Tiley, who was born in Canterbury and attended St Anselm’s School, hit a final-round 68 for a 13-under-par total of 275 to eclipse a field which also included European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, who finished fifth.
"It’s been a great week for me," said Tiley, who later this month will try to earn his playing card for the full European Tour at the qualifying school in Spain.
Tiley, who lives in The Bridleway, first played golf as a junior at Whitstable & Seasalter GC before joining Chestfield and then Canterbury. He is now attached to the Royal Cinque Ports GC at Deal.
After winning a golf scholarship at Georgia State University in the USA, he returned home in 2006 and has been playing on the Asian and European Challenge tours for the past two years.
