Evidence of a cannabis factory in a pub was discovered following a raid by police.
Officers executing a warrant at the Run of The Mill in Sturry Road, Canterbury, found equipment typically used to cultivate large quantities of the Class B drug, such as fans, heaters and extractors.
Cannabis buds and leaves, along with £1,000 in cash, were also found in the building, but any plants had been removed.
As part of the investigation, a man admitted cannabis possession and was given a “cannabis warning” - a form of punishment for a first-time offence which does not result in a criminal record.
The pub remains closed while new operation conditions are agreed.
Details of the raid in February are contained in a report given by Kent Police to the city council’s annual licensing meeting yesterday morning.
In it, licensing officer PC James Gall is praised for his speed in dealing with incidents by holding licensees to account.
He is also credited with helping to establish the Zero Tolerance campaign in Canterbury with the universities, city council and BID - the aim of which is to keep people protected while enjoying the night-time economy.
The report concludes: “Kent Police will continue to be proactive by introducing new initiatives, working with partners and tackling crime and disorder through licensing operations.
“We will continue to assess all licensing applications and take proportionate action when necessary.”
