Traffic has returned to normal following a failure at a well-used level crossing.
The A28 Sturry Hill at the Sturry Crossing, near Canterbury, shut in both directions shortly after 7pm last night (May 12).
It was due to a level crossing failure between Field Way and the A291 Sturry Hill.
The incident caused delays for motorists who were being diverted away from the route.
Police were also in attendance.
However, the crossing has now been fixed.
A spokesman for Network Rail explained: “We’re sorry for the disruption to road users in the Sturry area last night.
“A problem with one of the level crossing barriers meant it was unable to be raised.
“Our teams arrived just after 7:15pm and worked with the British Transport Police (BTP) to manage the incident, but were themselves delayed in attending by the traffic congestion in the area.
“The fault was rectified just over an hour later and the road through Sturry reopened as normal.”
