Crowds turned out to watch Whitstable Carnival on Saturday, despite the rain which started not long after the parade left Pier Avenue, Tankerton at 5pm.

Although not as big as last year’s event organisations who had made the effort turned in some eye-catching floats and had clearly worked hard.

Included were Whitstable Sea Cadets’ entry on the theme of HMS Victory, the company Chimney Cleaners, from Whitstable, with Mary Poppins, complete with smoking chimney and Wright Flooring’s and My Parties Face Painters’ big game hunt.

Carol Simmons, carnival association treasurer and assistant secretary, said:

“The rain started not long after the parade set off and it was still raining hard when it got to the bowling alley but then it eased and was fine after that.

“Everyone kept on going and did really well. There were lots of people watching in the town centre which was really nice."
