Ray Turner expecting tough FA Trophy test against East Thurrock United

Faversham Town manager Ray Turner knows his side’s steady improvement will receive a severe test in Saturday’s FA Trophy second qualifying round home tie with East Thurrock United.

After losing their opening three Ryman League, Division 1 South games, Faversham have lost only one of the next eight, including a 2-2 home draw with Merstham on Tuesday night.

But East Thurrock are likely to prove difficult opponents even though the Essex club’s league form has been far from impressive this season.

United are currently third from bottom of the Ryman Premier but where cup ties are concerned, they are a totally different proposition.

United reached the FA Cup first round last Saturday – where they were drawn against Macclesfield – with a 2-1 win at Eastbourne Borough and they have already come through eight cup ties this season, including replays.

Turner said: "They are really flying in cup competitions but it would be really good for us to claim a Ryman Premier scalp and have a little run in the Trophy.

"If you take away the first three games of the season, we’ve put together a good little run and we’re getting some consistency."
