Restaurant staff held up and threatened

A RESTAURANT manageress was pushed into a cupboard and threatened by two masked men who stole £2,500 from the till.

The robbery happened at Caffe Uno in St Peter’s Street, Canterbury, when the member of staff was cashing up.

It is believed the men hid in the building late on Sunday night until the doors were locked and then confronted the duty manageress.

Both were wearing hoods and had scarves covering their faces. They escaped carrying a red bag heading towards Watling Street at about midnight.

Det Con Chris Owen said: “This was obviously a frightening experience for this lady and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious or saw these men.”

The incident is the most serious in a spate of thefts from businesses in the city centre in the last fortnight.

Police believe the same offender or offenders may be responsible for at least six offences but are not connecting them to the Caffe Uno robbery.

Anyone with information on any of the thefts or the robbery is asked to call police on 01843 222178.
