British eventer William Fox-Pitt, who grew up near Canterbury, is in hospital after a fall during a competition in France.
The 46-year-old suffered a head trauma after coming off his horse Reinstated on Saturday.
He was competing in a cross country course in the World Young Horse Championships at Le Lion-d'Angers in western France.
Mr Fox-Pitt grew up at Knowlton Court, a Grade I listed Elizabethan manor house near Goodnestone.
He is described as in a stable condition in hospital.
A statement from his family on his official website reads: "There has been no change in William's condition. He has undergone some more tests and will remain sedated under observation.
"We are very appreciative for the concern that everyone has shown. We will keep everyone informed with any developments via this website and Facebook."
Mr Fox-Pitt is Britain's most successful rider with 20 major championship medals.
