A crash closed a busy road in Canterbury in both directions for nearly three hours.

A blue-coloured car was left badly damaged in the smash, which happened on the A257 St Martin's Hill at 4.20pm.

Police closed off the road while they investigated, but it is not known how many other vehicles were involved.

Highways officials confirmed the road did not reopen until around 7.15pm.

Police have been contacted for comment.
