A MAN sleeping rough in a Kent city has been jailed after his dogs frightened pedestrians and tried to bite a police officer.
Justin McCarthy, 27, was sent to prison for 120 days by magistrates in Canterbury for four offences of having his dogs dangerously out of control in a public place.
He was also charged with breaching anti-social behaviour orders issued by a magistrates' court in London in 2005 and banned from keeping animals for two years.
Complaints were made that McCarthy's dogs threatenened passers-by at Canterbury East train station, in Castle Street and in Dane John Gardens. When he was arrested one dog tried to bite the arresting officer.
