A TEAM has beaten off the challenge of more than 100 schools across the county to reach the south east finals of the Young Consumers of the Year competition.

Simon Langton Boys’ Grammar in Canterbury gained their place after winning the Kent final against five other schools at County Hall in Maidstone.

The event is organised by Kent Trading Standards and the challenge included answering questions on consumer rights and responsibilities, money and finance, food and health, safety and the environment and Europe.

The Langton team of Geoff Baldwin, Dan Keim, Ben Abrams and Joe Mooney scored highest and won trophies and iPod players and will now be revising hard for the south east finals in March.

The students will be attempting to win a place in the national finals in June at the Trading Standards Institute conference in Bournemouth.
