AN INQUEST has heard how a music student suffered a fatal ruptured spleen after falling from his scooter.

Lyndon Hogben, 16, was found dying in Crockham Road, Hernhill, but a police accident investigation revealed he had first come off his machine on the Thanet Way.

Officers found evidence from tyre tracks that he had mounted the nearside verge and also discovered broken bits of his Peugeot and his visor at the scene.

He is believed to have got back on the scooter and ridden a further 1.5 miles before succumbing to the internal injury.

Lyndon, who attended Canterbury College, was on his way home to Woodside at Dunkirk after spending the evening with his girlfriend, Hannah Dunlop on January 29 when the accident happened.

His brother, Alex received a brief call from Lyndon who said he had come off his bike, but there was a fault with Lyndon’s mobile phone and he could not hear any more of the conversation.

He was found in the road by student Natalie Ewing, who was on her way home after working at the Boughton Village Stores.

A post mortem revealed he only had minor external cuts and bruises but had suffered a ruptured spleen.

Coroner Rebecca Cobb concluded that there was no evidence to suggest it was anything other than an accidental death.

Lyndon’s death devastated his family and friends. A tribute CD of his music compositions was released and a concert in his memory staged at Canterbury College.
