Drivers suffered long delays after the A2 was closed this morning following a serious accident where the air ambulance was called.
Both carriageways were shut near the M2 junction 7 Brenley Corner following the crash involving two vehicles, where one motorist is understood to have been injured.
A man trapped in one of the vehicles has been freed by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment.
The coastbound section was reopened shortly after 10am, with police, fire crews and ambulances sent to the scene.
The road has fully reopened in both directions at around 1.20pm.
Kent Highways tweeted: "Boughton, #A2 London bound: Traffic is currently being held approaching #M2 J7 (Brenley Corner) due to a serious collision whilst Highways England and Emergency Services assess the incident.
"Expect long delays in the area."
One driver said: "I'm trying to do a diversion around it through Selling.
"You can't get onto the road through Boughton.
"I saw fire engines, ambulances and police."
Highways England has set up a diversion route and advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys.
Motorists should head from the M2 down the A28 to Chilham, where they pick up the A252 westbound and then A251 northbound at Challock.
They then rejoin the M2 at junction 6.
