Women councillors face a walk in the dark after a council was caught out by its own sexual equality policy.
A whistleblower complained about "female only" parking spaces at Tower House car park in Canterbury city centre because they discriminate against men.
Now the policy is being reviewed and the spaces - reserved for women councillors attending meetings at the Guildhall - may have to go.
Council spokesman Rob Davies said the spaces had been saved for women so that they would not need to walk back to car parks at night.
But Cllr Jean Law said: “It is a lot of hot air over nothing. If anyone attacked me after a council meeting, I’d smack them.”
And veteran Tory Hazel McCabe said male councillors need not worry - she would hold their hands if they felt threatened walking back to their cars.
