Shocked motorists watched on as a dog chased down a fleeing stag - along the A2!
Dramatic footage of the bizarre pursuit was captured on the London-bound carriageway of the busy route between Aylesham and Bridge.
The stag can be seen racing towards oncoming coastbound traffic as a dog trails it along the central reservation.
But the deer then leaps over the middle barriers onto the London-bound side, before escaping into a nearby field.
The drama was captured by the son of Womenswold resident Georgie Leadbeater, who was driving along the road yesterday at about 11am.
"I saw what I thought was a stag and fawn running up the wrong way of the A2," the 32-year-old said.
"But when we got nearer, I saw it was a dog chasing the stag.
"They crossed over onto the Canterbury-bound A2 and I managed to drive in front of the dog to cut it off and stop the chase - you can hear me calling it trying to distract it.
"I was going to try to catch it but once the chase was broke, he ran back under the barrier and back down the other way towards Dover on the coastbound carriageway, then up into the field, I think.
"Luckily my son was in the car and was able to film it for me."
The video was shared on Facebook and has been watched more than 60,000 times.
One comment on the post said: "Thank God all was safe. The stag is looking for a mate, bless him - I know that feeling!"
Another person posted: "Well done for being observant and slowing the traffic down."
It is not known if the stag lives in the wild or has escaped from a form of captivity.
A number of people also reported seeing the imposing animal in other locations, including in Kingston.
