Long delays on A28 near Chartham after smash

A smash on a main road which caused a van to overturn sparked long delays in rush hour traffic.

The accident on the A28 Ashford Road in Chartham has now been cleared following a collision at about 4pm.

Traffic information site Inrix says the accident has now been cleared and the road has re-opened.

It read: “Reports of delays were due to an accident, a van and a truck were involved on A28 Ashford Road. Reports suggest the van was overturned.”

Motorists shared images of the overturned van on social media blocking both lanes.

It is not known if anyone was injured in the crash.

A police spokesman said: “We attended a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A28 in Chartham at 3.45pm on Monday.

“Officers assisted with traffic management and the recovery of the vehicles.

“The road was cleared by 5.40pm and no serious injuries were reported.”
