A dazzling display of Christmas lights has returned for another year in Canterbury, thanks to the dedication of Stan Truelove.

Around 2,500 bulbs will illuminate his South Street home to help raise money for the Pilgrims Hospice.

kmfm breakfast DJ Neil Redding switched on the display on Friday night before a crowd of 200.

Father-of-two Stan hopes this year’s display can be a bit more eco-friendly. He said:

"It’s only taken three weeks to get the display fully set up this year because of some new technology.

"We’ve got more lights up but I’ll probably cut down on my electricity bill as the output has dropped down to 24 volts."

The 54-year-old builder and property developer started putting up displays 13 years ago and since then the phenomenon has grown and grown.

He added: "At first it was kids who really liked it but now it’s the adults who come up to you and are the most impressed by what you’ve done.

"I hope we can raise over £3,000 this year with the help of kmfm."

Donations can also be dropped into 101 Fashion and Beauty in Herne Bay’s Mortimer Street, a business run by Stan’s daughters, Karen and Sam.
