A man has been charged with wounding after a young shop worker was stabbed in the back at a Welcome store near Canterbury.
Ian Bartlett, 61, of Shipyard, Ash, was due before magistrates today.
It comes after emergency services were called to the shop, in The Street, Ash, to reports a woman had been knifed at just after 8am yesterday.
The air ambulance also landed nearby to treat the 21-year-old woman, who was then taken to the William Harvey Hospital with a wound in her back.
Her condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
Police have made one arrest in connection with the alleged attack.
The store was closed while police and forensics officers gathered evidence.
As many as seven police cars and two ambulances were spotted at the scene.
People living nearby spoke of their shock.
Hayley Withers, 29, said: "I was visiting my mum up the road when it happened. It's not nice. It's awful, because it's such a close-knit community.
"Everyone knows everybody. It's such a shock, especially at that time of the morning when people are taking kids to school. I hope the girl is OK."
Audrey Bumpsteed said: "Nothing like this has ever happened here before. I have lived here for 40 years."
