A yellow storm warning has been issued amid concerns communities could “become cut off by flooded roads”.

The Met Office has set the alert to cover Kent from 12pm until 8pm, with heavy showers and thunderstorms expected to cause some flooding and disruption.

It comes as the county experienced one of the hottest weeks of the year where, on Sunday, the mercury hit 31 degrees in some areas.

Today, spray and sudden flowing water could cause difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

The Met Office said in a statement: “There is a small chance that some communities could become cut off by flooded roads. There is also a slight chance power cuts could happen and other services to businesses and homes could be lost.

“Where flooding and lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.”

Finally, there is a small chance homes and businesses could become flooded quickly with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes or strong winds.

The weather alert comes after Kent experienced some of its hottest weather for the year over the weekend.
