An attempted break-in at a Canterbury property this morning is the latest in a string of similar incidents in the city.

The incident took place in a property at about 2.30am today in Gore Mews - where a window was broken and a person was seen running from the area.

Police are now asking residents to stay vigilant, and have revealed a number of burglaries and attempted burglaries have taken place in the north part of the city in recent weeks.

A Samsung laptop and jewellery including two pairs of earrings were stolen from a property in Brymore Road - between 2pm on December 22 and 3pm on December 27.

Between 4pm on December 22 and 4.30pm on December 27, a money pot containing cash was stolen during a burglary at a property in nearby Tennyson Place.

Another burglary at a property in South Street saw a laptop, cash and bank cards stolen, between 11pm on Thursday and 1am on Friday.

Items such as bricks or rocks were used to smash windows to get into the properties.

Detective Constable Rob Goodban said: "We ask residents to ensure their properties are kept secure and windows are in a good state of repair so they are not easy to break into.

"Photograph and insure expensive or unique items - those photos will make it easier to reunite you with your belongings if stolen.

"If you are going away, consider using security measures, such as timers on lights and radios to make your property look occupied, or install CCTV.

"Lock away tools and garden items which could be used to break into your home.

"We continue to investigate the reports and ask if you have information about any of the reports, perhaps you’ve heard glass being broken near your home and saw someone in the area, to call us on 01843 222289 quoting the relevant reference number."
