ARMED with only their ingenuity and blagging skills, four students from the University of Kent have managed to get themselves to San Francisco and back - without spending any money.
Their ambitious 'Escape and Evade’ stunt was organised to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care, but took them far further than they thought possible.
It was masterminded by 20-year-old Rosa Vass who is studying criminology. She was moved to support the charity following the death of her father who was cared for by a Macmillan nurse.
She said: “We have to thank two taxi firms, Roger Collins Cars in Canterbury and Allport Cars in Herne Bay for providing us with the free transport to and from Heathrow.
But the biggest result was getting the airline to give us four free return tickets to San Francisco. We never dreamed we would be able to get so far without spending any money.”
Their efforts have, however, raised £1,307 from their dozens of sponsors and supporters for the charity.
Rosa added: “We were in San Francisco for about four hours and even persuaded the cabin crew to take us with them to their hotel into the city centre and managed to get a lift back with the crew flying the return journey.”
