If you hear a knock at the door don't worry, it's not trick or treat time yet.. but a lowly student wanting a bit of friendship.

A group of university students is willing to bring a little love to their community by offering them a simple cup of tea.

It's part of a new campaign called 'I Love My Canterbury' and is being driven by students from Canterbury Christ Church University to improve relations in the community.

More than 200 students have already registered their interest in handing out the 'love' mugs to their neighbours as a way to get to know them better and to break down barriers.

Liam Preston, president of the university's students' union, hopes other universities in the UK will follow their example.

He said: "Hopefully this may ignite a campaign around the country to change the way students are viewed.

"It's about time that we are not labelled as drunks and tax dodgers but actually the work we do in the community is really pushed to the forefront."

The students hope to do more activites for the community around Canterbury like promoting recycling, cutting people's lawns and even dog walking.
