Student's face slashed in racist attack

DETECTIVES are seeking witnesses to a serious late-night racial assault in which a student was slashed across the face with a sharp weapon.

The 23-year-old Chinese student and his girlfriend were both on bikes when they were approached by a group of three boys and a girl in Ruttington Lane, Canterbury, behind the Leopards Head public house.

One of the boys punched the victim before making racist comments and slashing him across the face with the unknown weapon.

The victim required numerous stitches for a gash to his face. The wound extended from his temple to the corner of his mouth.

Police are keen to trace a couple who came to the aid of the injured man and drinkers from the nearby Leopards Head who may have information that could assist police.

Two boys, one aged 13 and the other 15, and a 16-year-old girl have all been arrested in connection with the assault and are currently on police bail until the December 10.

The incident happend on Saturday, November 5 at around 11.15pm. Anyone who can assist police with the investigation is asked to contact DC John Beggs at Canterbury Police on 01227 762055.
