Army bomb disposal teams were called to deal with a suspect parcel at HMP Canterbury at the weekend.
Police had to close Longport in Canterbury on Saturday afternoon after concerns about a parcel received at the prison.
Police were called at 12.23pm and some of those being held at HMP Canterbury were moved out of the immediate area within the prison.
The road outside was closed as a safety precaution.
An Army bomb disposal team checked out the parcel but it was found to only contain a cooking utensil.
The road was reopened at 2.45pm.
