A 27-year-old man has been released under investigation following a crash that left a woman in a serious condition.

Police were called to Fordwich High Street, close to the junction with Well Lane near Canterbury, after a grey Volkswagen Golf smashed into a property just before midnight on Friday, June 1.

A man from Herne Bay was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving yesterday.

The woman, who is in her 20s, suffered serious chest and internal injuries and has been taken to a London hospital. Her condition is described as stable.

Craig Douglas, 52, was sat in his lounge when he heard the car plough into the side of his house.

"I leapt up and when I went outside I saw a huge white plume of tyre smoke and steam from the car’s radiator," he said.

"The three occupants of the vehicle were dazed and confused. The girl was obviously seriously hurt."

A wall surrounding the property was smashed and parts of the building’s brickwork were damaged by the collision.

A passenger, a man in his 20s, was taken to a local hospital with a wrist injury.

The police Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances and is appealing for anyone who may have seen the vehicle travelling in the moments leading up to the crash to get in contact with them.
