TA soldiers are hot shots

Territorial Army soldiers based in Canterbury swept the board at an annual shooting competition.

Members of the 3rd Battalion, the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, upheld their reputation as the country’s premier TA marksmanship unit at the annual skill at arms meeting.

The 3 PWRR Tigers shooting team retained the unit championship title and won other team trophies and individual medals. In addition, Pte Nick Simmons won the Queen’s Medal as the competition’s overall top shot.

Held at Bisley and Pirbright ranges in Surrey, the competition is the most important in the TA shooting calendar, with more than 40 team trophies and individual medals up for contention.

The eight-strong shooting teams took part in up to 13 different team and individual shoots with rifles, pistols and machine-guns over the three days of competition.

Pte Simmons, 27, who has been in the TA for 10 years, not only took away the Queen’s Medal but also won three trophies and a couple of silver medals.

The 3 PWRR team also took three trophies and 11 second place awards.
